What is Mailspring?
Mailspring is a free desktop email client available for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. It was derived from the email client Nylas, whose support has already ended. There are two main methods that Mailspring can be used to install on Ubuntu. Let’s look at both of them
1) Install Mailspring with Snap
Mailspring can be easily installed with a snap. Snaps are compressed forms of applications that already contain all of the dependencies they contain. They have the advantage that you can install applications with a single command and they can run in any Linux distribution. To install Snapcraft’s Mailspring, run the following command in Terminal:
2) Install Mailspring with Debian file
For users who are not familiar with the terminal, they can also use the Debian file to install Mailspring on their systems. To download the Debian file, go to Mailspring’s official website and click the Download Button at the top right of the screen.
After clicking Download, you will be taken to a screen with several platform options. Click on the Linux file (64bit .deb) found in the Linux section.
After downloading the Debian file, open the directory where you downloaded the file and double click on it. The Ubuntu software screen then opens, on which you can download the To install Button. Just click on it to install Mailspring on your Ubuntu system.
Using Mailspring on Ubuntu
After installing Mailspring, you can find it in the list of your installed applications.
When you open Mailspring, you will see the following screen. Click on Getting started to move forward.
It will then give you a brief introduction to its functions. Read these as they will give you a better idea of what Mailspring has to offer. When you’re done, keep clicking Next until prompted Create a Mailspring ID.
Create your ID here, if you don’t already have one, otherwise just log in with your existing ID. After creating your ID you will be asked to Connect your email accounts to Mailspring. You can choose one of the many options.
After you’ve connected your email, you’ll be prompted to choose the panel layout that suits your preference.

As shown in the image above, click Finish Setup to finish setting up your email account on Mailspring. Once set up, all of your email will open in a single unified inbox. All e-mails from all your e-mail accounts are available in this command center.

Mailspring also has amazing features like scheduling messages to be sent later, plus live tracking and read receipts. The latter will send you a notification as soon as your email has been opened or read.
As seen in the image above, you can set up email to be sent at specific times by using the icon pointed to by the arrow. The symbols enclosed in the circle are for reading, to activate read receipts and live tracking. You will be notified when the person opens your email.
